CALLING
I heard God call me to Next Gen ministry when I was about 5 years old. So, I tried to learn everything I could. I was always a student leader in youth group, and I got my feet wet leading worship at youth events. I was the weird sophomore in high school sitting on the front row of every youth conference I could find.
In college, I studied theology with an emphasis in youth ministry and led collegiate worship teams internationally and across the US. I also sang on live television 3 nights a week. Not much footage exists, which is good.
IN COLORADO
After graduation I started at New Life Church in Colorado Springs as the Student Pastor over Middle and High School Students. We grew to around 1,400 students a week with 250 adult and student leaders. It was a crazy time with some of the greatest people ever.
But we also endured a nationwide scandal with our lead pastor and an active shooter on our campus one year later where two teenage girls died. Those were some of the most challenging years. We learned a lot, and God was faithful.
TO AUSTIN
After 10 years there, my wife and I heard God say go to Austin, Texas to plant a church called One Chapel with my brother. We launched the kids and student ministries there, but also led serve teams, learned some graphics and web design, preached regularly, took out the trash and did anything else that needed to be done. A few years in we became multisite.
In 2016, Maria and I felt like God asked us to launch and pastor one of the multisite campuses. We pastored that campus for 5 years in a movie theater, preaching every weekend, and then handed it off to focus more on Next Gen strategies.
LOOKING AHEAD
So, for over 24 years I’ve been a student leader, a worship leader, a megachurch student pastor, a church planter, a campus pastor, an executive pastor, a next gen pastor and a kids pastor. And all of that in just two churches. I hope I can use those experiences to help you win in your ministry. I’ll help with how so you can do what matters most.
